Car Color: What It Says About the Driver

When it comes to cars, are all colors equal? Studies show they aren’t and that each hue plays a different role in the image a driver wants to portray.trucktransport

Let’s face it: the personality of a vehicle is as important to the owner as the make and model.

Experts who study how color affects consumers agree that a car shopper’s color choice is the result of careful consideration. What driver doesn’t want their ride to reflect their personality?NewFCCLogo

Whether the goal is sleek sophistication, polished perfection or bold beauty, the color you choose says a lot about you.

Car buyers are passionate about what they love. Or hate.

Just ask veteran car saleswoman Amiee Miller, who’s been selling used cars at Florida Fine Cars for 4 1/2 years.

“They get extremely crazy over the color of their car. A person who wants a white car, wants a white car. A person who wants a black car wants a black car,” Miller said. “Color can make or break a deal. Some shoppers won’t even look at a car unless it’s a certain color.”

The most popular car colors? Black and white, followed by silver and gray, she said.

“Black is incognito. It’s luxury and power,” Miller said. “White is so Miami, so South Florida.”

Cars buyers who gravitate toward orange, red, yellow or green like something a little different. Cars with unique interior colors like peanut butter, gold, terra cotta or red also have devoted followers. And sometimes a car color just depends on whimsy.

“It takes a particular person who sees that car and just wants it,” Miller noted.

Experts who study color and consumerism say choosing a car color is also about how the car owner wants OTHERS to perceive them instead of just a reflection of how they see themselves.

Hot-Headed or Cool as a Cucumber?

Black is associated with luxury, power and sophistication

Car buyers are attracted to the same colors over and over mostly because the colors reflect an element of their personality. Experts who study color link certain traits to specific colors. Take a look:

Black: Associated with luxury and sophistication. Drivers who choose black vehicles select them because they want to look like they are in charge. It’s the color of choice for royalty, presidents and diplomats and it is all about power.

White: Youthful and modern. Drivers who pick white are clean, fastidious and prideful. It’s also a popular color in hot climates because it reflects light and helps keep you cool. And yes, it’s sooo Miami.

Silver:  Elegant, futuristic and modern. It’s sleek and beautiful and it doesn’t get as dirty as white.

Gray: Dignity, tradition and maturity. A person who drives a gray car doesn’t want to stand out.

Red says, “Look at me!”

Red: Confidence, passion and high energy. Red is a color that says, “Look at me!”

Blue: Stability and serenity. This is a practical, cheerful color. Don’t worry. Be happy.

Brown/beige: Down-to-earth, thrifty and honest .A driver who chooses brown isn’t concerned about style, trends or fads.

Yellow: Joyous and positive. This is a color for the young at heart. Smile!

Green: Linked to nature, strong sense of self. Drivers who pick this hue don’t care what others think.

Orange: Unusual. Drivers who choose this hue aren’t afraid of being different.
